Chapter Seventeen
Theadora
I wake to arms entrapping me. Pushing at them, I try to get up, but they only tighten further around me.
âAtlas,â I grumble, knowing itâs him. His tattoos give him away so easily. âLet me go.â
âDid that once, donât think I will again,â he mumbles sleepily.
Somehow, I manage to turn in his arms so now my face is against his chest. His eyes are closed, and his face relaxed. âI think Iâll keep you.â He pulls me closer, so our bodies are fully aligned.
My stomach chooses that very moment to growl loudly. I havenât eaten, and Iâm so tired because of the lack of sustenance. Atlas was right yesterday when he said I needed to eat, I can feel it in the way my body is so sluggish.
âI want to eat, and then I want to go home,â I tell him.
Atlas opens his beautiful amber eyes and looks at me. âOkay.â
âOkay?â I ask, questioning him.
Did he actually agree?
âWhatâs the catch,â I ask.
âYou have to accept that I will pick you up every evening from your work, and you will stay with me.â
âWhat? No way.â I try to push away, but he holds me tightly, and I have no strength to fight him.
âMy father has a hit on you.â
I freeze at his words.
What the actual fuck!
When I look back at him, I see his darkened expression watching me, waiting for me to freak out. But Iâm already doing that on the inside, on the outside I am numb. His arms tighten around me a little more, not letting me move.
âWh-Why?â I ask, barely above a whisper.
Iâve never met the man, why would he want to do that?
âBecause youâre a threat to him. He sees women as nothing more than trouble. He thinks when you have a woman in your life you canât reach your full potential.â
âDo you think the same way as h-him?â
âI did, till you.â
âIf you didnât just tell me your father wants me dead, that might have been romantic.â
âI can be romantic.â He leans in to kiss me, but I pull back.
Nope, not happening.
âRemove your arms, Atlas. And honestly, you donât have a romantic bone in your body. So, will you stop with the lying.â
âDo you agree with my stipulations?â he asks.
If I move my leg up quickly, I could hit him between the legs that would disable him enough so I could get away. I shift my arm, and when I do, I feel his hip which is bare. My eyes look down, and thatâs when I know heâs wearing no clothing at all.
âWhere are your clothes?â
âDo you agree?â he asks again.
âYou can sleep on my couch,â I tell him. âThatâs as far as Iâm willing to budge.â
âI could keep you here,â he says. âYou have no way of escaping.â
Heâs right, but I feel like I have some kind of pull or power over him, however small that may be.
âNo. You are making me miss heaps of work time. Let me go, feed me, and take me home.
